Some Updates

So, aside from dressing up as Batman and running around school with lightsabers, I’ve been rather busy lately.

Since I got my camera back I’ve been ploughing ahead with production on my short film. After months of camera and editing work, I finally have gotten the hang of this thing. Sort of. I can shoot scenes with relative ease now, knowing that it hopefully won’t look terrible and I won’t have to re-shoot it all at a later date.

Today was the filming of a scene which I’ve been anticipating and trying to organise for a long time. It’s the opening of the movie, where one of the main characters gets chased and hounded by a group of rabid fans. The irony of it is this character is relatively unpopular (in the narrative context and in real life) and isn’t some kind of male sex symbol as he is presented as in the film (he’s signed off on this, I’m not being harsh!). I used to just think he was an annoying nerd but after spending lots of time with him he’s pretty cool. Continue reading “Some Updates”

I Still Don’t Have a Camera

This is really starting to piss me off now.

In August I noticed a fault with my camera. When shooting on a Canon DSLR, there are several different shooting modes which can be interchanged via a dial on the left hand side. The preferred shooting side for filming is ‘M,’ which doesn’t stand for ‘movie’ (I thought it did at first), but rather ‘Manual’. This means that you can control all the different settings like lighting, audio, style etc before you compose your shot rather than the camera doing it for you.

For some reason, sometimes whilst shooting on that recurring thick green lines would roll up and down the screen. They actually recorded onto the footage, as well, so it wasn’t a monitor issue. This didn’t happen all the time and I managed to shoot lots of footage without encountering the problem, but when I actually had to use a different shooting mode in the production of my short film for a certain scene which drastically affected the quality, I’d had enough. Production Begins

Production on The Prefects has begun!

Well, it sort of begun like two weeks ago, but the footage was crap.

So, yes, filming kinda officially begun this morning. Normally on films you don’t shoot scenes in chronological order; just whichever order is most flexible, however as it turns out filming in sorta-chronological order is the most flexible for me. So yay. Continue reading “Production Begins”
